Gold Key

Gold Key is an item in both Legend of Grimrock and Legend of Grimrock 2. It is used to gain access to special treasures behind Gold locks. Any Gold Key can open any Gold lock.
Legend of Grimrock[]
There are five Gold Keys in the game hovewer one is required to leave the room in which you find it which means four are usable.
Gold keys are usually dropped by enemies:
- Giant Spider in level 3 - this is one of the extra Spiders which appear after you reach the Note saying I better watch my back, the spiders are everywhere! They're released from behind a fake wall leading to the Slime Dungeon(see Secrets)
- Ogre in level 6 - this is the first Ogre you see as you enter the level.
- Fighter's Challenge on level 6 - the only Gold Key not dropped by enemies, it's just lying on the floor. Required to leave the room.
- Ice Lizard in level 9 - in the Temple Grounds
- Giant Crab in level 13 - in north-eastern part of the level.
Items behind Gold Key Doors[]
Gold keys can be used on any of these doors, so if you don't like what is in earlier places just save the keys!
Level 3 Treasure Store[]
This is Level 3's Iron Door and counts as a Secret.
Level 6 Treasure Store[]
- North/left: Tome of Fire
- East/middle: Crossbow
- South/right: Fire Bomb x2, Flask, Tar Bead x2, Cave Nettle x2, Blooddrop Blossom
Level 9 Treasury[]
- South: Book of Infinite Wisdom (+5 Skill Points to reader)
- West: Plate Greaves, Frost Bomb x2
- North: Flarefeather Cap, Serpent Bracer
Level 13 Treasury[]
- East: Torch 3x, Sack (contains Tar Bead x3, Blooddrop Blossom x3), Sack (contains Grim Cap x4, Energy Potion, Healing Potion)
- North: Plate Cuirass, Plate Greaves, Plate Boots, Plate Gauntlets, Full Helmet
- West: Fire Bomb x2, Lightning Bomb 2x, Fire Blade

There are 11 Gold Keys in the game and 17 Gold Locks.

- Shipwreck Beach - put the Rapier in hands of the statue just north of the Crystal of Life.

- Forgotten River - in a Wooden Box at the bottom of the river where ruined stone bridge to Castle Nex is
- River Tunnels - The Cache, dropped by one of the Ratlings
- Flooded Dungeon
- Cemetery
- Hamlet of Stormbreach

- Crystal Mine Abyss
- Tomb Underground
- Barren Desert
