Medusae are enemies found sealed within the Pyramid of Umas. Capable of levitation, they can travel over water and traps, and quickly strafe to any adjacent tile. After the pyramid has been reopened, they will begin to populate Sleet Island, where their ability to float over water will be very freely demonstrated.

The bows Medusae carry give them a long-range attack, which can easily catch you off guard from these mostly-silent monsters. If a Medusa's arrow takes you by surprise, though, consider yourself lucky—its other attack is far worse. Should you be in one's line of sight, the Medusa may turn its gaze on you: the serpents on its head will rise, and with a piercing shriek, Petrification may be inflicted on a member of your party. Once it has started, a Medusa cannot move or turn until the attack is completed, giving you a few seconds to escape its sight. Even with the warning, the pyramid's narrow hallways can make it all too deadly.
