The Dismantler
The Dismantler is the most powerful sword in Legend of Grimrock. While its base damage lags behind the Icefall Hammer or Ancient Axe, and it has a slightly longer cooldown than that of the Sword of Nex, reaching skill level 50 in Swords will double the Dismantler's attack speed, as with all swords, allowing it to perform attacks more rapidly than unarmed attacks. The Dismantler also has a chance to deal additional shock damage, though this enchantment isn't mentioned in the tooltip.
It can be found in The Vault in Level 8 and most of the otherwise-optional level is based around getting it. The platform on which the sword rests is pressure-sensitive and, if the player picks it up without first placing another item on the platform, a trap will spring, shutting the door and rapidly hurling lightning bolts at the party. Quickly putting another item on the platform will disable the trap and re-open the door, but the safest approach is first to put another item on the platform, then take the Dismantler, which will prevent the trap from going off in the first place. The Torch on the wall behind the platform is useful for this purpose.
