Viper Roots are enemies which appear in Legend of Grimrock 2. The first encounter is with two as a Boss on Shipwreck Beach, in which they are fought in a sealed arena. Further encounters with them occur in the Forgotten River at various points in the game. Even outside of their role as a Boss, they are most often encountered in groups of two or more.
A fight with this enemy can be completely unexpected, as Viper Roots hide underground until they are encountered. They will use this ability liberally throughout a fight, vanishing into the ground and reappearing several moments later to continue battling. Should you find one, try to avoid tight spaces and corners until it is defeated. Viper Roots make a lot of noise as they resurface, giving you an opportunity to get out of the way of their melee attacks, though they are not much safer at a distance—to hit ranged foes, they can fire Poison Bolts.
Viper Roots are tremendously weak to Fire, and catch alight at the slightest hint of it—if one gives your party trouble, even a swing from a Torch can be an effective weapon in the battle, especially in the early game.
